- Excursions:
Ninh Binh was Vietnam’s ancient capital, also known as Hoa Lu. The eighth century dynasty of King Le Dai Hanh was credited with building many palaces and made the royal capita very beautiful. In 1010, King Ly Thai moved the royal capital a short distance to Thang Long. Nowadays, visitors can see two temples around 500 metres apart – one in dedication to King Dinh Tien Hoang and the other to King Le Dai Hanh. On the tenth day of the lunar month, pilgrims come to Hoa Lu to pay tribute to Kings Dinh and Le.
The mountains in the waterways of Van Long nature Reserve are named as Meo Cao (scratching cat), Co Tien (lady fairy), Mo Coi (orphan) and Hon Sach (book); each of these names being rooted in ancient Vietnamese legends and folk takes.
The region is uniquely Vietnamese, often referred to a Halong Bay on land because of the extensive waterwats and towering craggy limestone hills surrounding flat plains planted with rice. This picture perfect location is also home to the oldest pagoda in the country – the Bich Dong Pagoda. Ninh Binh is also famous for the Tam Coc – Three Caves. Access is via a long waterway in one of the armada of small vessels plying the route. The scenery along the way is one of scenic beauty just waiting to be captured in photographs. Interestingly, the caves’ rocks were formed by sea water erosion over thousands of years, although today, the sea is far away.
Ana Mandara Ninh Binh has put together some signature experiences for guests to explore the very best that the area has to offer. Tours range from half to full day, and include picnic meals. For guests wanting to take bespoke trips, the resort can arrange private excursions that include meeting the locals and enjoying typical restaurants or gourmet food provided by the resort. This is a fantastic destination and Ana Mandara Ninh Binh will do everything possible to make every visit an everlasting memory.
